Artificial intelligence, or AI, is software that can do some jobs that used to need a person, like reading an email, writing a reply, sorting a list, or answering a question. AI gets oversold, so it helps to be plain about what it's good at. It's good at repeat work that follows a pattern, like drafting the hundredth answer to where an order is. It's weaker at judgement, feelings, and anything it hasn't seen before. For a small team, the useful question isn't what AI can do in general. It's which job in your week eats the most time and follows the same steps each time. That's usually where AI pays for itself first, with a person still checking its work.
