Internet of things (IoT)

The internet of things, or IoT, is the name for everyday objects that connect to the internet. A fridge that texts you when it gets too warm, a door lock you open from your phone, a sensor that counts visitors, and a smart plug on a timer are all IoT devices. For a small business, a few can be useful. A cafe can protect stock with a fridge temperature alarm. A studio can give teachers door codes instead of keys. A shop can count foot traffic to plan staffing. Each device should solve a clear problem. Cheap devices often have weak security, so change default passwords, keep them updated, and put them on a separate Wi-Fi network.
