Process automation means having software do the repeat steps in a job, so people don't have to. That could be copying a new order into a spreadsheet, sending a reminder email, or filing an invoice where it belongs. We work with an animal rescue with one paid coordinator and 45 volunteers, where the weekly roster used to be built by hand from texts. Now an AI helper (the industry calls it an agent) collects availability, drafts the roster, and messages people to fill the gaps. The roster takes an hour instead of an evening. The coordinator still makes the final call on who handles new animals, because that depends on knowing each volunteer. Automation works best on steps that happen the same way every time, and less well on anything that needs judgement.
