What Claude Code is
Claude Code is an AI coding tool made by Anthropic. It runs in a terminal and inside code editors, as well as in Anthropic’s desktop and web apps. You give it a job in plain words, and it reads the code, edits files, runs commands and tests, and reports what it changed. A file in the project can hold the house rules, like how the code is laid out and what it must never touch, so it works the same way each time.
It’s fast. It can also be confidently wrong, and it’ll happily write code that works today and causes trouble later. That’s why the person checking matters as much as the tool.
How a small team uses it with AI
Most teams of one to ten don’t need a developer on staff. They need the occasional small build: a form that drops orders into one sheet, a page on the website, a connection between the booking tool and the email tool. With Claude Code, we can build those in days, which makes them worth doing at a small team’s scale.
Some founders use it themselves and build their own first app. That’s a good way to test an idea. The work that’s harder to see is logins, payments, customer data, and what happens when something breaks at 2am. That’s where we come in, either to build it with you or to tidy up what’s there.
What we connect and build around it
- House rules for the tool, so it follows the same layout and limits every time.
- Small, readable changes, each one checked by a person before it goes live.
- Connecting your tools (data pipelines), when the job is moving information between apps that don’t talk to each other.
We use Claude Code on our own builds every day, so we know where it helps and where it needs watching.
Where Claude Code falls short
Claude Code doesn’t know your business rules unless someone writes them down. It can skip a security check without saying so. It can also build more than you need, which means more to look after. For a small team, the right app is usually the smallest one that does the job, and that’s a judgement a person makes.
