A neural network is a type of computer program, loosely based on how brain cells connect, that learns patterns from lots of examples. It's made of layers of simple maths steps, and each layer picks up a little more of the pattern. Neural networks power the AI tools small teams use every day, like Claude for writing, Canva's image tools, and the voice tools in ElevenLabs. You'll almost never need to build one yourself. What matters is knowing what the tools built on them are good at, like reading, writing, and spotting patterns, and where they slip. Neural networks can't explain their own reasoning, and they can sound sure when they're wrong. That's why a person checks anything that goes to a customer.
